Working with high-resolution images in mailworx
If your question hasn´t been answered in this whitepaper, please let us know. We´d gladly catch up on this.
As the name suggests, high-resolution images are intended to be displayed with a higher quality as well as resolution. These images or graphics have a higher density of pixels than the standard. Therefore, they are displayed sharper on the screens of your receivers.
Your newsletters are viewed on numerous different devices, which also have different displays. Particularly in the recent years, more and more high-resolution displays are on the market. Images with a lower resolution will lose quality and are blurred on the new screens if they are not designed for the high density of pixels.
When you use high-resolution images in your email marketing campaigns, they are uploaded with twice the number of pixels and compressed that your images are shown in a good quality on high-resolution displays.
mailworx supports high-resolution images in your mailworx campaign editor. This allows you to upload images and graphics with twice the size and integrate them into your email marketing campaigns in the right dimension, but with a double number of pixels. The button for activating high-resolution images can be enabled for all picture elements of your newsletter template.
If images are integrated directly into the text editor or are used as background images, they can only be displayed as usual - not in high-resolution.
Upload the desired image as usual in your mailworx media database or directly via the campaign editor. Then select it in the respective picture element of your newsletter template. Here we've summarized the required conditions of high-resolution images to integrate them perfectly into your email campaign.
As soon as you have selected the desired image, you have a button with an eye on it to control whether you want to display the image in high-resolution or not. If the image has the correct resolution (at least twice the number of pixels compared to the standard image), it is displayed automatically in high-resolution. However, you can deactivate this at any time. Additionally, all the usual editing possibilities of the mailworx editor are available for these pictures.
In order to integrate high-resolution images into your mailworx campaigns, it must have at least twice the number of pixels as the recommended dimension of your newsletter template. This corresponds approximately to twice the size of this image. You can see the default size directly in the placeholder of the image or by clicking on the settings of this element. The double number of pixels is required to make the images sharper on high-resolution displays.
The button for activating high-resolution images can also be used for smaller images that do not have a double number of pixels. If you activate the button for those images, the image is simply displayed smaller and does not fulfill the entire placeholder of the template. In this case, make sure that the whole layout of your newsletter is still displayed in an attractive way.
If the image is bigger than the placeholder within your newsletter template, but has less than twice the number of pixels, the image will be adjusted to the size of the placeholder, but the quality will only be increased as far as possible. There is a simple rule: The larger the number of pixels, the greater the quality of the image.
In order to ensure an optimal display of high-resolution images within our newsletter template, we recommend adhering to our guidelines.
The use of high-resolution images sounds tempting, because you can provide high-quality images to your receivers. Nevertheless, you should evaluate, where the integration really offers a benefit. The pictures bring a higher quality, but also a longer loading time when opening your emails. Especially for recipients who open your mailings on mobile devices, this can be a big disadvantage.
High-resolution images with twice the number of pixels also have a larger file size. In addition to the loading time, you must also pay attention to the storage capacity of your mailworx media database. Therefore, you should balance between the benefit of high-quality images and the given disadvantages by higher loading times and greater memory usage.
Common image editing programs offer you the opportunity to downgrade the quality of your images, while keeping the number of pixels. Simply try this out with JPEG files. You can hardly notice a difference in your newsletter campaigns, but it is possible to reduce the file size with this trick.
